Investing in a Stronger, Cleaner Energy Future
As our communities continue to grow and our energy needs increase, it is
becoming clear that investing in America's electric grid is essential to
our future.
Clean, renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, geothermal, and
battery storage are becoming increasingly important parts of our energy
portfolio. However, producing clean energy is only part of the solution.
We must also modernize the infrastructure that delivers electricity to
homes, schools, hospitals, and businesses.
A reliable electric grid must be able to both receive and transmit
energy efficiently across regions. Much of our nation's energy
infrastructure was built decades ago and was not designed to accommodate
the growing demand for renewable energy, electric vehicles, or advanced
energy storage systems.
Investing in grid modernization improves reliability, reduces outages,
strengthens energy security, and helps lower long-term costs for
consumers. It also supports economic growth by creating jobs in
construction, engineering, technology, and energy development.
California is taking important steps to address these challenges.
Assembly Bill 2493 is designed to accelerate projects that upgrade and
modernize the electric grid, helping ensure that clean energy can be
delivered where it is needed most. Assembly Bill 2516 focuses on
identifying supply chain delays affecting critical grid infrastructure
projects and incentivizing in-state manufacturing of key components
needed to strengthen our energy system.
Together, these measures recognize that building a clean energy future
requires more than generating renewable power—it requires the
infrastructure necessary to move that energy safely and efficiently
throughout our communities.
Communities like San Clemente have an opportunity to be part of this
transition by supporting smart infrastructure investments that improve
resiliency while protecting our environment.
Clean energy is not simply an environmental goal—it is an investment in
our economy, our energy independence, and the future we leave for the
next generation. By modernizing our electric grid today, we can build a
cleaner, stronger, and more reliable energy system for tomorrow.
Both Assembly Bills 2493 and 2516 are expected to be heard this week in
the California State Senate Energy, Utilities, and Communications
Committee. Their consideration reflects the growing recognition that a
modern, resilient electric grid is critical to California's economic
prosperity, environmental goals, and long-term energy reliability.
